Somehow an aging single mad scientist and the son of the town slacker are friends. Ours is not to question why, but to buy the premise - and we did. In 1985 this was a great movie that caused us to question what would happen if a person were unintentionally sent back in time. We learn that for every action there is an averse reaction and too much interference in our past could result in multiple changes to our future. Filled with doses of humor and self realization Marty McFly learns more than he wants about his parents and not quite enough about himself. Oh yeah, the time machine? A tricked out DeLorean.

Good Points Marty cares for his family even though they come across as highly dysfunctional. Marty also is friends with a crazed scientist, Emmett Brown, who doesn't appear to have any other friends besides Marty - and his dog.
Bad Points Language is a problem, as is innuendo. A couple of brief scenes with alcohol and cigarettes. Scheming and lying are common, presumably because no one would believe Marty was from the future.

Conclusion It's frustrating when a movie has so many good qualities that can be spoiled by elements that really aren't essential to the film. There's so much to love about this film - the great performances by both Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd, the DeLorean is cool, the set from the 50's is impressive and the concept for the movie is outstanding. That being said, the innuendo and language may make this film one parents may wish to rescreen before making a decision on whether their children would benefit from watching.
